Dr. D. Harland Hagler passed away on December 1, 2023. Before his retirement in 2017, he was a faculty member in the Department of History for 51 years. He taught classes about U.S. history and Southern history and was the first UNT faculty member to teach a course dedicated to African American history. Dr. Hagler was a dedicated colleague who served as associate chair for many years, and he was the recipient of a college-level award for outstanding service. He was an inspiring and brilliant teacher who frequently stayed in touch with students for decades after they left his classroom. Dr. Hagler was also incredibly generous and kind and had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh.
